THE NECESSARY CHANGE OF PARADIGM
A change of paradigm is necessary!
From that prospective, I considered that it is only through the comprehension of the whole that we can explore the mechanics of complex social phenomenon. Thus, by applying organic systemic principles revealed by an oriental thinking to social phenomenon, I came to decipher the functional complexity of work organizations. The resulting model, Expert 5ATM, leads to a detailed understanding of each social level of a complex organization: individual (emotional, existential and productive) and plural (synergical, productive, economic). It also reveals the processes responsible for the integration of a given level into the next: singular into plural and plural into more and more complex. Thus, Expert 5ATM allows for the intimate articulation of three distinct intelligences: existential, managerial and economical. This book is essentially dedicated to managerial intelligence
Basing ourselves on Expert 5ATM, we can lay out the blue print for building a productive social system. The following requirements will guide us throughout this book.
The first step is to call on reliable and mature individuals. Generally speaking, business companies hire collaborators on the basis of their personality and technical competencies. The first step in building a team is the acknowledgment of personal worth. This, of course, implies in return that individuals take on full responsibility to grow as mature adults.
The second step is to create a social environment respectful of the different processes which allow an individual to become part of the social fabric. Because we deal here with a dialectic relationship, the corollary is that individuals must develop the social competencies necessary to thoughtfully deal with otherness. Remember that individuals are each responsible for resolving the dialectic equation: "me/others" mentioned earlier. The relationships which take place within the social fabric are based on emotion, and the social tissue is the addition of all these individual equations
The third step is to create a synergy. This time, the synergy is based on specific systemic functions and not on emotions. Effectively, the structuring of a working organization rests on a synergy based on missions and not on personalities.
The fourth step is to integrate individuals into the working team through appropriate casting. A working team is an intelligent synergy which individuals integrate by satisfying two requirements. First, they must possess the technical competencies necessary to fulfill their mission. Secondly, they must possess specific competencies necessary to contribute to the group productive synergy. These specific competencies allow them to satisfy at least one of the systemic functions of the team. We will call these: "T5 productive competencies", and we will see that these competencies reflect an individual's personality and history. Creativity is one example of T5 competency. We will encounter five families of these competencies and see that they constitute the fundamental articulation between the social and the organizational realms.
The last step is to insure that the work organization is led by managers having appropriate management practice. We will see that not everybody can assume such responsibilities and that this has nothing to do with personal worth. Leadership is another one of the five families of T5 competencies.
According to what was just said, the efficiency of a work organization depends on two specific factors:
1.How well the production processes of goods or services is understood. This will determine the quality of the organization.
2.How well intelligences are being casted. This will determine the degree performance (collective and individual).
Expert 5ATM demonstrates that these successive building steps depend on a single systemic process which provides coherency on each of these two following levels: individual (emotional, existential, T5), and collective (raison d'être, synergy), and allows for each one to integrate into the next. Prior to exploring Expert 5ATM as it applies to work organizations, a minimum knowledge of the Traditional Chinese Medicine is required. This knowledge will be necessary to understand the basis of this new model, and later on, assimilate the way it applies to work organization1.
